TITLE
I saw two Western productions within the past two days. The first titled "Trust" and the second titled "Cheat", which I just got back from about 20 minutes ago! It was such a breath of fresh air to see scripts lined with profanity...and even brief nudity - cause you know, who wouldn't feel this way if the last play you saw was a Hazen production (not being offensive!).I love the theatre arts, and I respect people in drama so much. These people have the most interesting personalities I know, and are not mere carbon copies of each other. Y'all keeps it alive! Anyway, the plays were great. Actually, 'great' is just an understatement. I suppose the titles pretty much speaks for itself. Trust was a more traditional play, centered around a single story line, about the issues of trust within relationships for the most part. I found Cheat to be the more impressive of the two because it followed a non-traditional devising method. The actors weren't just following a script, but it was a creation as a whole generated by the 12 performers over the course of several months. I don't want to repeat the program, but the whole play, from lights, movement, sound, was generated through sparked ideas of a single book about the cheating culture. Now the idea of 'cheating' was not restricted to cheating in relationships, but universally. (i.e. Is it cheating if you go on Facebook at work?) I guess it just broadens one's perspective on cheating on a miniscule scale that we don't even notice. Then of course, there are always those more 'adult' dialogues that even my freshman in college mind still don't understand. Anyway, those were my brief 2 cents.
Just to follow this trend of attending viewings of one-word titles, I'm going to watch Choke on Monday. I finished the book a while ago, but I'm excited to finally see this screen-adaption.
Just realized this whole blog could have been easily laced with subliminal messages. Trust, Cheat, Choke. It would be great to end with a witty joke or statement right now, but quite frankly it's 1:29 AM and even Katt Williams is out of juice.
