I recently started watching a British comedic teen drama called Skins featuring Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire. Danny Boyle had actually casted Dev from his performance on Skins, so I figured it was worth watching. Just from watching some clips from it, it looked rather promising. Looks like I'm experiencing what is called the honeymoon phase of culture shock, the differences between the American culture and British culture seen in a romantic light, wonderful and new. With that said, I compiled a list of new British terminology that I learned within the first two episodes: bollocks, shag, wanker, wank, chips (fries), bloke, quid and well that is all I caught because I couldn't seem to catch the other ones in their heavy, fluid accents. Though this show is more vulgar than a lot of American shows I have seen, their linguistics certainly make sex and drug-filled story lines seem prim and proper. This goes for just about everything else they say, fucker, tits, and bastard has never sounded fancier.
