808s & Heartbreak
Lately, I've been hearing people diss on Kanye's new album.I'm actually listening to it as I type this and still to this day, I'm going to have to stand up for the lyrical genius.
Sure...following a record-sales, top-album-charting, 3 time-grammy-winning junior record, anything not up to par in comparison may be considered as complete and utter "shit". It's a little harsh isn't it?
A whole album void of rapping and emphasis on pitch auto correction is definitely a whole new style for Kanye, something the audience isn't used to, but does this justify his new work as crap? I don't think so.
"West stated that 'This album was therapeutic — it's lonely at the top.'
West felt that the emotions he felt within his heart could not be fully expressed simply through rapping, saying that aside from the fact that rapping had limitations, there were "melodies that were in me — what was in me I couldn't stop." West went to classify 808s & Heartbreak as a pop album, stating his disdain towards the contemporary backlash to the concept of pop music and expressed admiration for what some pop stars have accomplished in their careers. He later stated that he wishes to present the music as a new genre called "pop art", not to be confused with the visual art movement of the same name. "
I'm loving this idea of music being 'pop art' that is also being practiced by talents such as Lady Gaga. It's a little thing called being subversive, and although many Kanye fans had negative feedback, I gotcho back Kanye!! Get into it.
Now let me hear your opinions!

Being an avid Kanye fan since pretty much the 10th grade or so, I've doubted the almighty Louis Vuitton Don lately. After debuting with an album that could easily be categorized as 'Hot Fire', I feel like his music has been experiencing a steady decline. First came 'College Dropout', 'Late Registration', and then 'Graduation'. I mean 'Graduation' has its moments, but nothing special. So to put it simply, I didn't really know what to expect from '808s & Heartbreaks'.
Kanye’s album, 'College Dropout', is comprised of plenty of timeless hits. From 'All Falls Down' to 'Through the Wire', some would say his sound was revolutionary for its time. However, in the midst of all this praise for Hip Hop's golden child, haters were plentiful. What is often the case though, I guess it's just human nature, is that the initial reaction to unconformity is negative. In actuality, people are confused. We are hesitant and have no idea what to think, so we reject it. I'm not saying that if you don't like Kanye it's a fluke, I only wanted to shed some light on behavioral tendencies. To put this all of this in context, I’m guilty of dragging and dropping my freshly downloaded album, ‘808s & Heartbreaks’, into the Recycle Bin after a quick listen. “Ugh, this new Kanye sucks. What a let down…”
Recently however, Kanye’s new sound has grown on me. The ‘Heartless’ song that they consistently play on the radio is different but catchy. I think it would be wrong to compare Old Kanye with his new sound, you just can’t do it. Although I’ll regretfully bid farewell to overly pompous lyrics and his Hip Hop persona, Kanye’s most recent melodies boast a contemporary style that I find somewhat promising and strangely refreshing. Props to him for breaking character and mad respect for being real with his latest album. Ultimately, I’ve realized that it’s probably unfair for me to suddenly rag on Kanye after all the sweet music he’s produced, so I at least downloaded his album again to show my support.
“Hey Wanita.”
So basically, I agree with you.
